Ruins offer singular feelings to the ones whiling to dream. From ruins sadness and hope arise and when we are close to them we feel protected but also lost. My walls are taken by wonderful humid textures and Mr. Time is doing once again his masterpiece. Here I am, sheltered by abandoned walls in which I don’t want to be. Why ruins have always attracted artists? What do you think C. David? -It is in the past where we really want to live, it is the past what we really want to paint. In that moment David takes his cup of tea and drops it; the fragile porcelain breaks in hundred of pieces…now these little pieces belong to the floor, but only if we don’t dare to collect them, but only if we don’t put them back together.

‘Welcome back my purple frogs’ (a version of an Afro-Cuban folk tale)

A frog called Antonio desperately wanted to leave his village, for many years he felt trapped and misunderstood by his fellows frogs. Finally he decided to leave everything behind. Antonio was ready to see the world and to get rid of his blurred and bored existence, but first he wanted to find a partner. Someone that together with him would share a new life and the uncertain trip that was ahead. After months of looking everywhere he found Juana a very brave and determined frog that as well as Antonio was looking forward to a completely new life experience.

Jumping and singing Antonio and Juana left the village that saw them born and while being accompanied with blue skies and gentle sun rays, in perfect harmony they dreamt of bigger villages where frogs could sing louder, villages where frogs were not only allowed to be green and brown but also blue and purple.

After weeks of a non-ending road and during a very quiet and fresh morning they finally noticed something in the horizon. In the distance, through the dense fog they perceived a shockingly big thing. What they managed to see was massive and promising. Jumping faster and almost flying of joy they loudly started singing –Yes, we found it, of course, of course, of course!!!

The closer they were to the thing the bigger it got, unfortunately wasn’t a town or a city was just a huge fallen tree that massively blocked the road. Antonio trying hard climbed desperately the tree but was too big, it was just impossible to cross -My love, this is the end of our trip, Antonio explained to Juana and she immediately replied –I am not going back! We can stay and have our family here, if we can’t make it our children could, I am sure with the time this tree will vanish then our children could see what we didn’t manage to.

Years later there was no tree blocking the road but the two young brother frogs remembered very well what their wise parents always said –You have to follow the road, you have to get to see what we haven’t. There are bigger cities ahead, there are bigger dreams waiting for you.

The departure day arrived; the two brothers were by then strong enough to continue a trip that their parents started years ago and when they are about to start jumping forward the oldest brother Ramon asked the little Juan -What should we do brother? Juan replied –Lets go back to our parent’s village.

A DOUBLE WINDOW. During a summer night in 2005 while fading away in a boring table, in one of those Venice Biennial’s art-diners, someone seating next to me suddenly asked me: – Do you know anyone that owns a Picasso? That question triggered a long and exciting conversation that ended dizzy and very late that night. Next morning I wasn’t in the mood of ‘vaporetting’ around Venice and I decided to stay longer in my humid hotel room. It was only about 2:00 o’clock in the afternoon that I got to know, from the hands of my hotel’s receptionist, the following note:

Good morning my Dearest

Today at 6:00 o’clock in the afternoon an old friend of mine invited me over for a drink. Following our last night conversation I thought you would love to see his place. In case you are curious, please meet me at the south corner of Piazza San Marco in between 5:30 and 5:45.

That summer afternoon I got introduced to someone that owns a Picasso. His house could have been easily a first class museum anywhere in the world. Rooms after rooms; paintings, sculptures, books and objects got better and better until I crossed the last door entering a no larger than 4 x 4 room that contained only two solitary elements: An extraordinary 50 x 70 cm Picasso drawing and a 50 x 70 cm window that peacefully framed a view of the Canal Grande. It was in that room where I had the following thought

-Everybody must has the right to own a Picasso and a window

THE REASONS WHY lonelyfingers

Found pictures, found objects, found footage and found documents play a central role in the development of many artists practices. In some cases found materials are the core itself of entire artistic positions. The reading of such materials can give us access to the artists works and their lives in a very intimate and especial way. lonelyfingers is entirely dedicated to the artists’ objet trouvé, to those fragile and mostly forgotten elements that embody the beginning of an artwork. All the objects presented in this on-line platform are rather considered stories than artworks.

lonelyfingers will give us access to incredible ‘objects’ that inspire contemporary artists to create their artworks. For us the story behind the artwork has a remarkable value. Amplifying worldwide artists’ references is our biggest challenge and bringing artists’ ideas into plurals understandings is what we love to do.

OUR FIRST COLLECTION: ‘Milk Can Scape’

The Milk Can Escape Collection contains 31 objects/documents/paper-works from contemporary artists: Jarosław Fliciński, Manuel Graf, Owen Gump, Diango Hernández, Rita McBride, Anne Pöhlmann, Glen Rubsamen, Tom Sloan and Monika Stricker.

In 1901, Harry Houdini introduced his own original act, the Milk Can Escape. In this act, Houdini would be handcuffed and sealed inside an over-sized milk can filled with water and make his escape behind a curtain. As part of the effect, Houdini would invite members of the audience to hold their breath along with him while he was inside the can. The act was advertised with dramatic posters that proclaimed “Failure Means A Drowning Death”.

As an act of magic lonelyfingers débuts with The Milk Can Escape Collection and as Houdini did so many times, we will try to escape from multiple powerful locks and from very complicated sealed tanks. From now on please hold the breath together with us.
